DILLARD, Ore. – A Eugene woman was seriously injured when a pickup truck crashed on Old Highway 99 on Tuesday night.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the driver of the truck was also injured – and deputies cited the Roseburg man at the hospital in lieu of custody for investigation of DUII and other charges.

The case started with reports of a crash in the 9000-block of Old Highway 99 South near Dillard around 9:20 p.m. March 30.

“When deputies arrived on scene, they found a 2007 Toyota Tacoma in a ditch,” the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation found that the driver, 35-year-old Jesse Lee Gardner of Roseburg, was headed south on Old Highway 99 when the pickup drifted off of the roadway and into a ditch. The truck came to rest against a culvert.

Firefighters freed 46-year-old Amber Taylor of Eugene from the wreckage and rushed her to Mercy Medical Center for evaluation of serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

Gardner, the driver, was also transported to the hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

“Deputies conducted a follow up investigation and arrested Gardner for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering and Assault,” the sheriff’s office said. “Due to his injuries and condition, deputies cited and released Gardner at the hospital.”
