A moped rider died Saturday following a crash with a pickup truck in Glenwood.

Springfield police and the Eugene Springfield Fire Department responded a little after 1 p.m. to the crash in the 1400 block of Glenwood Boulevard, according to the police news release. 

A Dodge Ram pickup was traveling south on Glenwood Boulevard when it struck the moped. The rider, driving north, appeared to be attempting a left turn from the northbound center turn lane of Glenwood Boulevard, according to police. 

The pickup truck had the right of way, police stated.

The rider was not wearing a helmet. He was critically injured and transported to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend , where he died of injuries from the crash, police said. 

The name of the rider has not yet been released by police.

Glenwood Boulevard was closed for more than four hours while investigators collected evidence.

Speed, alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a contributing factor for the driver of the truck, police said. Springfield police are asking that anyone with information to call Sgt. Mike Massey with at 541-726-3714.
